1
the goals were met. Great opportunity for me to get to know other employees and
their responsibilities what they do and how it applies to me. I would like to see
more time between sessions. I feel this year things were a little rushed not enough
time for questions. Because I did not have the opportunity to be in these
particular trainings, I cannot comment. It was a nice change of pace and I did
learn some interesting things but I don't see how it effects my service to the
public. Public Works Day gets some heat every year as "a waste of money" and for
how the expense is calculated - I wonder how the public might perceive our Training
Day with so little actual training being done? Separate training day from lunch.
Any additional suggestions /comments
Employees need to be seated and not standing in back talking that disrupts everybody
else. Some employees are very rude with their gabbing. Get more employee involved
with organizing event. Video equipment needs to be repaired so it works. It was
good to see staff from outside Roosevelt yard be participants especially facilities
and community centers. The event should continue to focus on work activities and
not move towards other things. Some minor activities that benefit the community
such as adopt -a- family are probably ok. Make the festive aspects of the day
memorable. Utilize the talents of PW personnel, have a party. There are singers,
musicians, actors, magicians and other assorted clowns working for PW. Talk to the
recreation people they know how to party. Even P.S. has a choir. Do it a night,
have a no host bar and hire a band if necessary. The is no better way to build
esprit de corp then socializing. Lets have Santa Claus and live music. Maybe
someone could play guitar or something w/a little more holiday spirit. Last hour
could be free time to wonder from crew room to crew room. Crews could be encouraged
to bring in desserts for this time. Would encourage team building. It would be
nice to see other dept like fire and police, medics, K -9 dogs, drug sniffing dog,
Inet, detectives. Why not use this opportunity to introduce "new employees" to the
rest of the people in the division? Perhaps mix crews the one or two days prior to
training day- debrief in crew meetings; or round -robin schedule. Something to
actually have crews interact. Garage in back worked out very well. Sound systems in
large conf. room was poor. The food was great! Such a meeting does serve to
further infuse the sense of festivity and appreciation. Ig the objective is more to
promote "brotherhood" among the ranks, a midsummer, warn - weather gathering would not
require the use of facilities designed for other uses. I would like to thank all
those who made this day possible. Well done! The committee on a job well
coordinated. I would repeat, we may want to discontinue the event around the
holiday season and consider doing something later. I always thought a good time
would be to roll the event in with the safety awards ceremony and kill two birds
with one stone. How about doing g both in February 1995 and still doing the Feb
1994 safety awards. Request those that will not participate by choice to get
involved with the days events. Great program. Many organizations around town either
appeared on tv with a christmas message or in the newspaper - why City of E not. My
biggest complaint is around the food - I don't know if the per person charge wasn't
enough or if we under estimated the amount people would eat, but when I pay I expect
there to be some food for everyone. Hand out door prize raffle tickets in advance -
people had to stand outside for quite awhile to sign up for door prizes.
