• Trailer Rides: This is such a fun and popular part of the event, but one that
does get people antsy. Waiting in lines is tough and if you act as place holder
for a large group, those behind you don't know it's happening until your group
shows up and bumps their place in line by quite a bit - which is frustrating for
everyone. I wonder if our attention could be directed to other things while
we're standing in line? Could we implement a learning circle or some other
way to keep people occupied while they're waiting? I noticed how fast the
time went by when we were on the trailer ride, as opposed to how l00000ng
we waited in line. I also noticed that one trailer seemed to have a larger
capacity than the other - was that just my imagination or was that really the
case? Also, I realize the trailers are used for other things (the other 364 days
of the year), but could we bolt a center platform seat down the middle for
additional seating to carry more passengers? My suggestion comes from an
assumption that we can't implement a third trailer ride, but if we could, that
would be an even better solution to the lines.
• Confusion about the LTD shuttle: Apparently this was one area that didn't
receive as much pre -event coordination as we would have liked, but the
shuttle happened, so it worked out. Apparently teachers /parents were being
told by some that the shuttle wasn't happening, others were told it was
running, and one teacher said she called LTD and they stated that they didn't
have info about it until the morning of the event, and front gate staff didn't
have pick up /drop off schedules or even know that the shuttle was doing all
day runs (I had 7 adults in my group, so there was much talk about the
shuttle). I asked a driver if there was a shuttle schedule and he provided the
most helpful info. I informed the gate staff hoping they could answer
questions for those departing the event and heading back downtown, but gate
staff never did get the "official" scoop on the shuttle.
Overall, this was an incredibly successful event! Kudos to everyone who did
such an outstanding job. Thanks for letting me participate again this year, I had
a lot of fun. Michelle Mortensen, CMO
Debbie: Thanks for helping coordinate a great event! There a couple pieces of
feedback I'd like to pass along. First, I heard only negative comments and
concerns about EPD's display of guns. With an event that is targeted at kids,
letting them handle pieces of machine guns was not a successful idea based
upon the parents /teachers that I heard from. Secondly, only a couple
parents /teachers commented on the long wait. One idea that a parent gave was
to establish assigned times for the trailer rides when the group checks in at the
front, and then, no matter where the group is at, they show up for their trailer ride
at their assigned time (they then can return to the station they were previously at
after the trailer ride). Personally, the idea sounds like a good one, but the
implementation may be pretty hairy. There were a couple groups that had a long
wait, but I'm not sure if the majority waited long, or if this sentiment was a
minority. Moving the tiny park this year was a huge success! I think it kept the
bottleneck that occurred in previous years from happening this year. The Yard.
seemed pretty balanced in layout and each corner was heavily visited. Overall,
