MEMORANDUM <br />February 18, 1991 <br />TO: Division Managers <br />FROM: Sandra Gleason <br />SUBJECT: Public Works Day Awards <br />It's time for us to begin working on employee awards for this year's Public <br />Works Day -- May 23, 1991. The process works as follows: supervisors from <br />each division collect nominations from their work groups. The recommenda- <br />tions are taken to a division staff meeting and two employees are selected. <br />The forward those names and an explanation of why they are being nominated <br />for the award to Sandra. A selection committee -- Terry Smith, Leslie Brown, <br />and Sandra Gleason -- will review the' nominations and bring recommendations <br />to the department management team meeting for discussion and approval. <br />The awards and the criteria for selecting recipients are: <br />Special Service Awards: These awards recognize people who worked on special <br />projects that saved dollars, generated additional revenue, or had a positive <br />impact on the department or city. Depending on the type of project, the <br />award could be given to an individual or to a group. If awarded to a group <br />or team, each person's name will be placed on the plaque and each one will <br />receive an "Award of Excellence" pin. <br />L ife Saving This award is only given for true life saving situations. <br />Thirty Year: This is awarded to those individuals who are celebrating their <br />30th birthday with the city at the time of the event. Admin s ill <br />review personnel records to identify 30 -year anniversaries. i �d 5�, :4I <br />Productivity Awards: These are awarded for service delivery improvements, <br />such as going beyond the call of duty to deliver a service to the public or <br />for showing extraordinary initiative in delivering a service. <br />Since it will take six to eight weeks to have the awards produced, we will <br />need to meet the following timelines. <br />Selection process within each division Feb 19 /March 8 <br />Names to Sandra (selection committee reviews) March 12 <br />Management team selects 1991 award recipients March 26 <br />Awards to production <br />April 8 <br />For your information, I've attached a list of the 1990 and 1989 award recipi- <br />ents.
