Rich Wolles (WOOLS)
Joe Hessler
Ed Thompson
Mike Ferchland
In one month last summer, three Transportation employees were responsible for
converting 929 parking meters. The conversion generated nearly $135,000 in
additional annual revenue to the City, and made City parking meter rates
comparable to rates in cities of Eugene's size. John Ledgerwood will accept
the award for the crew; members include:
Marvin Van Cleave
Jason Kronholm
John Ledgerwood
Two Public Works crews from Airport and Maintenance are receiving awards for
their work during this winter's snow storm. A crew of airport maintenance
and city maintenance staff put in long hours in miserable weather to imple-
ment the airport's new snow removal program. As a result of their efforts,
no flights were cancelled during the 10 -day storm -- a new record! Jerry
Donald from the airport, will accept the award for the crew.
Airport staff includes:
Jerry Donald Bruce Smith
Mark Tusek (Too sek) Mike Coontz
Jim Mahoney Ken Blacketer
Shawna Sully Don Lancaster
Mike Tusek (Too sek) Henry Crafts
Richard Weiss
From Maintenance:
Ed Spaght (spate)
Don Malm
Dub Davee
Myron Boss
For 10 consecutive days during the snow storm, the Emergency Command Center
at the Maintenance yards was operational around the clock. Maintenance
employees worked long hours combating the snow and ice storm to keep trans-
portation routes in operation for emergency vehicles and the public. All
Maintenance sections worked during the storm. Ralph Wendt (WENT) will accept
the award for Maintenance.
In January, the variable frequency drives at the Willakenzie and West Irwin
sewage pumping stations suffered equipment failure. The units could not be
rebuilt locally and replacements for the seven drives would cost the City
nearly $110,000. After a great deal of research, three Wastewater employees
found repair parts and repaired the units themselves. Total costs, including
labor, were $23,800; a savings to taxpayers of $86,200. Larry Pedersen will
accept the award; crew members include:
Delmar Storment
Ken Carney
