MEMORANDUM
February 13, 1990
TO: Division Managers
FROM: Sandra Gleason
SUBJECT: Public Works Day Awards
Here is the information you asked for about the Public Works Day employee
awards. The process we used last year to select employees was as follows:
supervisors in each division collected nominations from their work groups;
during division staff meetings, the top two names of individuals or work
sections were selected; the division manager brought those names to the
departm ent management team for selection. This year, we agreed to nominate
a selection committee comprised of Terry, Darcy, and Sandra to undertake the
initial review of the nominations and to bring their recommendations to the
management group.
The following are the criteria we used to select last year's award recipi-
ents:
Special Service Award These awards recognize people who worked on special
projects that saved dollars, generated additional revenue, or had a positive
impact on the department or city. Depending on the type of project, the
award could be given to an individual or to a group. Individuals receive
their own plaque. If awarded to a group, then each person's name is placed
on the plaque, and each member receives an "Award of Excellence" pin.
Life Saving This award is only given for true life saving situations.
Thirty Year Awarded to those individuals who are celebrating their 30th
year with the City at the time of the event. Administration will review
personnel records to identify 30 -year anniversaries.
Productivity Award Awarded for service delivery improvements, such as going
beyond the call of duty to deliver a service to the public or for showing
extraordinary initiative in delivering a service.
Since it will take six to eight weeks to have the awards produced, we will
need to meet the following timeline.
Names from division managers to selection committee: March 16
be sure to include a short description of why you are
nominating an individual or group and any other
important facts.
Selection committee recommendations to division managers March 21
To production
April 2
If you have questions, please call me.
