0.
2007 PUBLIC WORKS DAY
FEEDBACK FROM TOUR GUIDES
Hi Debbie, I thought the event went amazi
appreciated the more of Tiny pe and n well a gain
location. I don't know how much this Impact fleet ® lees, this year, l roally
thoa h1eN a
movement perspective... I thought it was a great improvement. q a ~phi ~•w
" but r
a people
guide, I did not get an invitation to tour training. 1 may have missed repeat tour
would have been nice to note what the changes were and to remind me info, but it
specific things. For example, how long would an average tour take. o
including lunch? This info would allow me to gear my time better for urs
r the
Also, the key areas that we will be seeing or that are available. A r group.
there are recycling bins in the lunch area for use. (I didn't realize t
a suggestion from a parent that we have recyclin eminder that
told we already do this.) Specifically, I had a group that so I looked silly when I was
t his and it was
was only booked for 2 hours and the lunch box was checked ! NO but they inute
brought snacks which I did not know about until after we were into the tour.
None of which you could control, but I just wanted to share. It was nice to have
lunch provided. However, I saw some folks with muffins and was told that they
were available to all, but never told where. This may or may not have been true.
Also, Gail found cookies AFTER lunch ... not sure where. They were not with the
lunch line when I went through. Just better coordination of the communication
about food would be helpful - especially when we are tied to the front office.
Thanks for everything you and the committee did an this event. It was another
great experience. Kris Aanderud, PW Maint and PW POO
Hi Debbie: As always, support for the tour guides was awesome! The negative
comment I heard was why were their trucks to climb on and on a PW staff person
present. Teachers /parents didn't feel comfortable letting the kids climb on
vehicles unsupervised by City staff. As for me, I thought Tiny Park was under-
manned. There was two guys at the recycling 'booth' and that was it for 3 booths.
It would have been nice to have POS staff there to provide answers to questions.
Lunch was awesome! Thanks to all for another great PW Day. Tracy Calhoun,
PW Eng
I would second Michelle's suggestions about entertainment for the kids while they
are waiting for the trailer rides. I was with a group of 14. mostly 3 -4 year olds,
and I think we had the record wait of the day (35 minutes) which was a full 1/3 of
our total tour time and put some of those kids at the end of their rope. We had
some little girls laying down on the asphat, they were so tired of standing. How
about a basket of sidewalk chalk for the kids standing in line, so they can draw
on the asphalt while they're waiting (we could have them draw Public Works -
related pictures). We could hand out crayons and paper with PW- related
activities on them, and maybe have little mats they could sit on. We could have
some of the costumed characters come around and interact with the kids in line.
You'll never have a more captive audience the whole day than you do at the
trailer ride lines, so we should take advantage of it to get some messages across
while we have their attention! We could even move a couple of exhibits over
there (the compost/worm exhibit) so that they could go through that one group at
