May 15, 1992
TO: PWM Supervisors
FROM: Gene Shutt
SUBJECT: PW Day
This memorandum is an attempt to capture some of the Public Works Day related
items we discussed last week. Public Works Day is scheduled for May 21st
with working hours beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m. The actual
event will begin at 9:00 a.m. for the public and we will close the gate at
7:00 p.m. We will still have some people working within the Fleet section
until 11:00 p.m.
Tony will be in charge of the following: 1. Assuring the yard is swept
prior to May 19th at 7:00 a.m. 2. Making sure the dumpster has been emptied
prior to Public Works Day as they are normally picked up on Thursday. 3.
Fielding one sweeper, probably the Mobil. 4. Setting up trash cans and
assuring they are kept clean throughout the day. 5. Cleaning off tables
within the eatery areas as needed. 6. Policing the yard as time permits.
7. Keep the flusher available for wetting down the yard where the trailer
rides will take place. 8. Mowing north of Roosevelt so we can park there.
Dave Colley will be in charge of the following: 1. Coordination of obtain-
ing the tents and putting them up prior to the event (check with Hubbard for
placement as I know the Safeway tents are to be west of the new crew room).
Dave will work with the Airport staff who should deliver the Airport tents,
Dick Hubbard will arrange to have two privately owned Safeway tents picked up
or delivered and Dee Grissell will pick up the Parks tents. 2. Provide and
staff one backhoe on the operation line. 3. Coordinate the equipment on the
equipment display line (Mike Boss could do this). 4. Rove the yard and
assist with resolving problems.
Dave Ritter and Richard Zucker will arrange for the following: 1. Ask Coun-
ty staff if they will grade our yard prior to May 19th. 2. Get the trailers
prepared for rides. Staff the trailers (may need to request assistance for
staffing). 3. Richard will touch base with Laundry Service providers to
assure Laundry folks are out of here prior to 9:00 a.m. or they do the stan-
dard Friday pickup. 4. Provide staffing for one backhoe and the Gradall.
5. Rove the yard and assist as needed.
John Gibson and Ken Coen will be responsible for the following: 1. Ken will
handle all parking both for city staff and for visitors. Tony will mow north
of Roosevelt and Dick Stevens will move some stuff from inside their lot
storage so the gate can be opened and parking on the grass can occur. Addi-
tionally we will barricade and ribbon off an area of the new parking lot for
our staff. 2. Ken, ask Dick Hubbard if he has talked with the people in the
store at the corner. 3. Provide one backhoe at the operation area. Coordi-
nate with Dick Morgan to assist with an operator (if needed) and for someone
to help out in all areas. 4. Set up the TV truck and provide staffing for
same. 5. Set up the Vactor in front of Building #3 (Ken Coen knows the
location) and staff for that function. 6. John can be available in the same
manner as other supervisors to assist as needed.
EQUIPMENT TO BE DISPLAYED:
