Message
MEDLIN Johnny R
From: KOLB Randy C
Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 12:01 PM
To: MEDLIN Johnny R; HOSTICK Robin A
Cc: BLANCHARD Bob C; RINER Andrea G; MCVEY Fred
Subject: RE: Brewer Park web page
Johnny, thanks for the note. A few thoughts:
Pagel of 2
I believe the next version of the portal software deals with the URL issue. That should be installed this fall.
There are two ways to find a park. One is to click on the "How do I find a city park?" link on the home page. That
takes the user to the park locator. The second way is to click on your neighborhood under City Services and
Amenities, also on the home page. This brings a clickable map that shows parks and other city facilities in any
given neighborhood. In both of these methods the user must know the neighborhood or area of town and I can
see where that would be something that should be improved upon.
As far as the announcements for the recent workshop, there are two ways to do this. You can publish the
announcement on your pages, for instance on the POS home page, and /or you can have the event added to the
City home page. The Public Information Team handles the City home page announcements. By entering
"Brewer Park" into the search field on the home page I found the report from the May 26, 2005 workshop.
Last week staff here at ISD showed me the first analytical reports coming from web site use. These are going to
be very valuable tools for us all as we make improvements to the site. We can learn, for instance, how people
navigated their way to various pages, what are the most popular pages, and more. For instance we found that
the most popular search was for "Amazon" which tells us that we should be featuring Amazon Pool in a more
visible spot. This access to web site metrics means that we can make changes based on actual user feedback
and experiences. These are very valuable tools.
I am disappointed that you have gotten negative feedback. We must acknowledge, however, that had it not been
for some PW volunteers you would have had no site at all. No other department or division was in this
predicament. The goal became to get a basic site up for POS for the launch. So, you do have catch -up to do but
I have no doubt that continued improvements can bring the results we are all after.
Randy
- - - -- Original Message---- -
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 10:56 AM
To: HOSTICK Robin A
Cc: BLANCHARD Bob C; RINER Andrea G; MCVEY Fred; KOLB Randy C
Subject: RE: Brewer Park web page
Thanks Robin, I will forward your comments.
Thanks Johnny
From: HOSTICK Robin A
Sent: Mon 7/18/2005 10:46 AM
To: MEDLIN Johnny R
Cc: BLANCHARD Bob C; RINER Andrea G
Subject: FW: Brewer Park web page
7/20/2005
