CHAPTER IV <br />1 -27. Ensure that the City's acquisition program provides a balance <br />of natural areas and developed parks for active recreation <br />consistent with community values. <br />1 -28. Work with other City agencies to preserve street trees that <br />provide significant neighborhood character, e.g., the River <br />Road area. <br />1 -29. Implement the ADA transition plan for existing facilities and <br />develop an ADA transition plan for parks. <br />1 -30. Incorporate natural resource enhancement into plans for park <br />and facility development where appropriate. <br />1 -31. Use environmentally sustainable park development practices <br />and resource efficient construction techniques. <br />1 -32. Implement a consistent park signage program for use <br />throughout the system. <br />1 -33. Minimize the impacts of parks and community facilities on <br />adjacent development, including impacts of noise, traffic, and <br />lights. <br />1 -34. Explore the feasibility of establishing additional trails in <br />conjunction with public utility and mass transit corridors, as well <br />as along abandoned railway and road rights -of -way. <br />1 -35. Balance long -term, community -wide interest with the interests <br />of neighborhoods and individuals when planning and <br />designing the City's park, recreation, and open space system. <br />1 -36. Consider the needs of tourists as well as supporting a vibrant <br />nightlife when planning for the City Central planning sub -area. <br />1 -37. Assess community needs and update the PROS <br />Comprehensive Plan every five years to respond to changing <br />trends. <br />1 -38. Co- locate parks with schools, fire stations, and police stations <br />when feasible to enhance security. Monitor the impacts of <br />these facilities on park level of service to ensure there are no <br />reductions in park land. <br />1 -39. Enhance opportunities for public art in parks, including <br />performance art and temporary art installations. <br />1 -40. Develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy that is <br />congruent with existing systems /manuals for parks, recreation, <br />and open space management.
