We use and implement sound management strategies, we use IPM, (Integrated Pest Management,)
Competency
we continually seek better ways to manage our parks; we are conscious of the health and safety of our environment and
R Hallett
park users. We do not just go out and apply pesticides just because we have them.
Consistent POS Division policies, criteria and procedures on who, how and when City staff attempt to address drainage
easement encroachments, dumping on public property, unauthorized storage on or use of City natural areas, planting of
Illicit Activites and
inappropriate invasive species along open waterways, etc. As it stands now, different Sections and even different work
Consistency
units in the same Section take a wide variety of approaches and are relatively inconsistent (myself included) as each
new issue and situation presents itself. This has led to some past complaints from property owners about arbitrary and
Long
capricious requirements and treatment by City staff.
Streamlining our 5 service request programs within PWM/POS and how they operate. Currently we have Cassworks,
ECC, PWT, Street Lighting Maintenance, and the PSO sending us a C- Tracs. It would benefit my team if we would
Service Request
streamline the many service requests they need to fill out depending on what type of service request we are taking in
System
from the public. It can be confusing to figure out which program to use, how to use the various programs (especially
when you are new or don't do them often), and what information to ask depending on which questions the service
LeGat
request asks for.
Natural Resources Section Classification and Structure: I know this is two issues, but the two are so intertwined that it
makes sense to me to think about them both at the same time. The nature of the Section's work has changed a great Mission /Goals and
deal and increased immensely since its formation. I believe it is time to do an exercise similar to the one that we did with Organization
the Supervisor's group. We need to ask the questions: (1) What work do we do? (2) What work should we or shouldn't Structure
we be doing? (3) Given that body of work, who should do it and what are the knowledge and skill sets necessary for
,those positions? (4) How should those positions be classified? (5) How would we be structured to best provide services
Jancaitis
to the public?
C: \Documents and Settings \cewmjrm \Local Settings \Temporary Internet Files \OLKE8 \JMStrawPollExercise Apri107.x1s3
