Protect valuable natural resources and encourage their wise management and <br />proper use and reuse, reflecting their special natural assets. <br />2. Maintain a variety of open spaces within and on the fringe of the developing area. <br />3. Protect life and property from the effects of natural hazards. <br />4. Provide a healthy and attractive environment for the metropolitan population. <br />5. Protect, conserve, and enhance the natural, scenic, environmental, and economic <br />qualities of river and waterway corridors. <br />6. Secure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, which is satisfying to the mind <br />and senses. <br />7. Provide a variety of parks and recreation facilities to serve the diverse needs of the <br />community's citizens. <br />8. An uninterrupted recreation corridor linking the banks of the Willamette River, Delta <br />Ponds, South Hills Ridgeline Trail System, Fern Ridge Reservoir, Hendricks Park, <br />Skinner Butte Park, Alton Baker Park, Spencer Butte, Gillespie Butte, the Millrace, <br />the Amazon Channel path, and other similar locations to provide a variety of views, <br />environments, terrains, and experiences. <br />2. Neighborhood parks within walking distance of all residential areas. <br />3. Physical or visually perceived linkages between neighborhood parks and the <br />recreation corridor. <br />4. A variety of recreational and cultural facilities and services to meet the diverse and <br />changing needs of the community's citizens and visitors. <br />Conserved, protected, and enhanced open space, scenic, and natural resources for <br />recreational use and enjoyment by all of the community's citizens and visitors. <br />West Eugene Wetland Plan (2000) <br />G oals: <br />3.1 Protect and enhance water quality, wildlife habitat, flood storage, sediment and <br />toxicant removal and other wetland functions and values. <br />
