MEDLIN Johnny R
From: HALLETT Rob R
Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 7:28 AM
To: FINNEY Kevin P; MEDLIN Johnny R
Subject: FW: Laurelwood: Fairway 5 Drainage Trench DRAFT EMAIL
Some interesting edits made by Ed.
Roh
From: FREDETTE Ed W
Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 3:51 PM
To: PATRICK Tim W; HALLETT Rob R
Cc: CURTISS Billy R; COLLEY Josh D; STARK Donna L
Subject: RE: Laurelwood: Fairway 5 Drainage Trench DRAFT EMAIL
Hi Tim -
See my comments in BLUE below.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do. I also have photos if Craig wants to see them.
Ed Fredette
Erosion Prevention Specialist
City Of Eugene - Public Works
Office: (541) 682 -8471
Cell: (541) 501 -0358
From: PATRICK Tim W
Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 2:50 PM
To: FREDETTE Ed W; HALLETT Rob R
Subject: Laurelwood: Fairway 5 Drainage Trench DRAFT EMAIL
Importance: High
THANKS FOR THE QUICK RESPONSE ON THE DRAINAGE TRENCH WORK UP AT LAURELWOOD. SOUNDS
LIKE IT WILL BE A CATALYST TO SOME WORK BY STORMWATER REPS ON THE SITE'S SYSTEM.
CRAIG SMITH, THE LAURELWOOD CONTRACT MANAGER AND THE RECREATION DIVISION AIC DIRECTOR
WANTED ME TO EMAIL HIM SOME NOTES ABOUT THE DRAINAGE TRENCH. THE FOLLOWING IS A DRAFT SET
THAT I INVITE YOU GUYS TO REVIEW AND EDIT AS YOU SEE FIT. I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR FEEDBACK.
THANKS.
On Thursday 10/16 1 received a call from a concerned neighbor (Ila Ausland 686 -1675 and 543 -7844) about the stripping
of ground vegetation on the hillside that runs on the southwest side of fairyway 5. 1 said I would investigate and call
back.
On Friday 10/17 1 visited the site with Tom Utt from Irrigation, and inspected the trench work and hillside, and had a
conversation with the Laurelwood operators' plans to connect to the storm drain line. Utt felt the work was reasonable,
based on the drainage issues that needed to be addressed. I shared with Tod and Will that it would have been best to
contact you and /or Rob Hallett prior to the work to see if there were concerns from the City's perspective. Most notably,
erosion issues. At the end of the meeting I shared with them that 1 would be contacting Erosion Prevention staff about
the project and that a second visit was likely.
When I returned to my office, I called Ila, and let her know that the work had been done to solve drainage issues, and
that no trees had been removed in the excavation phase--just undergrowth was taken out. She seemed satisfied with
the explanation. I also had a phone conversation with Rob Hallett about the Laurelwood operators' work. He expressed
disappointment that he heard about the project after excavation had occurred. He also volunteered to contact Josh
Colley in Erosion Prevention, and ask for his input.
