9 Hole Improvements (Greens & Tees)
Improvements to the golf course have taken many forms since our arrival. The health
of the greens and tee areas were in need of the most attention. It has taken almost
30 months but all the greens have healthy turf and functioning irrigation and quick
couplers. They have been aerated, and top dressed weekly, and it has lead to
Laurelwood's greens being considered on their way to being as good as it can get.
The tee boxes were a different challenge. Some of the tee boxes were shared
between holes which lead many people to arrive back at the pro -shop only having
played 6 holes. There was not enough teeing area so people ended up playing on
dirt. We began the process of separating the tee boxes, building new tee boxes, and
adding to small ones. We have built or added to 16 tee boxes on the course. This has
added functionality to the game that was not present at Laurelwood before. Now the
best players can play a length that matches their ability, and women, seniors and
juniors can play our new forward tees and not feel like they are playing on a small
dirt circle at inferior quality compared to the others. In the past, all players played
at /or around the same distance. This was one of the many factors that kept the
golfing community from regularly visiting this facility. We purchased Granite Tee Box
Markers for all Tee Boxes (see attached picture).
*Granite Tee Markers alleviated a
directionally challenged golf course
*Took approximately 30 months to
achieve healthy greens (soil tests are available)
*Built or added 16 tee boxes to
incorporate all calibers of players
