Thirteen sidewalk access
thrd
ramps will be reconstructed, the “porkchop” island on Willamette Street at 20 Avenue will be rebuilt in
th
a slightly different configuration, a parking bay will be constructed on the west side of Willamette
between 22 and 23 avenues, and a section of failed pavement on Oak Street on the south side of 18
ndrdth
Avenue will be replaced.
In the first phase of construction, the contractor will focus on building new sidewalk access
ramps and the parking bay on Willamette Street. Motorists should expect lane detours and delays. Once
the work shifts to the actual street repairs, the City will attempt to keep one lane open for southbound
traffic; however, portions of Willamette Street may be closed to through traffic, and motorists are
encouraged to use alternate routes until the paving work is finished in early October.
The repair project also provided an opportunity to modify the existing lane configurations to
stripe bicycle lanes through this section of the Willamette Street corridor. Over the next several weeks,
watch for striping changes beginning at 17 Avenue. The changes include removing onstreet parking in
th
several areas and removing the left turn only lane on Willamette Street at 18 Avenue. The repair and
th
restriping on this section of Willamette Street is designed to be compatible with whatever decisions are
made about the future design of Willamette between 24 and 32 avenues.
thnd
Funding for the $850,000 project is coming from the voter-approved bond measure to fix city
streets and Eugene’s local gas tax.
For more information on this and other City of Eugene projects, go to www.keepusmoving.info.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
