June 1, 2012

CONTACT:
John Bonham, Project Manager, 541-682-5300

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fern Ridge Path Repairs Will Require Extended Closure
The Fern Ridge Path between Chambers and Garfield streets will be closed beginning
Monday, June 4, for about a month to allow repairs to the bank of Amazon Creek and the
realignment and reconstruction of the multi-use path next to the creek.
The first phase of the project includes building a retaining wall along the path at the west
end of the project under the Garfield Bridge. Once that work is completed, crews from Wildish
Construction will relocate the path so it is not as close to the creek. The completed ¼-mile-long
path will be 12 feet wide, with a concrete surface and lighting.
thth
During construction, cyclists and pedestrians will be detoured to use 14 and 15
avenues as an alternate route. The detour includes an enhanced crossing with flashing beacons
th
on Chambers Street at 15 Avenue.
Work currently is scheduled to be completed by the end of July. Funding for the
$350,000 project is coming from federal “Rapid-Readiness” and STP-U grants, with a local
match from transportation SDCs.
For up-to-date information about this and other shared-use path repair projects, go to
www.keepusmoving.info.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
