The busiest streets and major bus routes have been
treated four or five times to provide traction as the winter storm continues.
Crews and equipment are being dispatched from the Public Works Emergency Command
Center on Roosevelt Boulevard. Eight Public Works dump trucks have been outfitted with plows,
sanders or deicing tanks. Motorists are advised to give wide berth to sanding trucks and plows,
which continue to patrol the streets.
To date, more than 400 cubic yards of sand have been applied to city streets, and Public
Works and crews from the Eugene Water & Electric Board are working cooperatively to replenish
sand supplies at the Public Works yard on Roosevelt Boulevard. Public Works is also partnering
with the Oregon Department of Transportation to get adequate supplies of liquid deicer.
An ice-snow parking ban remains in effect on priority routes. More information about the
parking ban can be found of www.eugene-or.gov (click on the link under city news): Property
owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to keep sidewalks safe and clear of ice and snow.
The National Weather Service is predicting freezing temperatures today, with a forecast of
freezing rain and more snow on Wednesday afternoon.
"We can't control the weather, but we will do our best to keep the streets passable," said
Eric Johnson, who is managing operations in the Emergency Command Center.
Eugene Public Works • www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 • 541-682-5523 • fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
