Eugene Public Works crews this week are removing <br /> the asphalt at he north end of the road, near Highway 99 and Prairie Road, and "dead end" signs <br /> have been ins alled at the south end near Barger. The closure has been planned for several years <br /> and is suppo ed by the Oregon Department of Transportation. <br /> Empir Park Drive is a leftover piece of Old Pacific Highway, which was routed over <br /> Prairie Road. The roadway was relinquished to local government by the state when Highway 99 <br /> was located i its current configuration in the 1950s.
