The second will be Monday, June 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hilyard
Community Cuter, 2580 Hilyard. At the open houses, staff from Eugene Public Works will provide
general informa ion about the overlay program and answer questions about this year's specific projects.
This su I mer's overlay projects include Norkenzie (Cal Young to Beltline) and West Amazon
(Fox Hollow to ~Vlartin). Jeppesen Acres (Providence to Nirvana) may be included if bids for the other
streets are low elll ough to allow a third street to be rehabilitated. The work is scheduled to begin in late
July and contin~e through August.
Eugene's overlay program is designed to preserve the City's roadway network by doing timely
asphalt paveme t rehabilitation. A pavement management system is used to rate streets based on
condition and wage and identify those streets that would most benefit from preventive maintenance.
Because it is m~ch less expensive to rehabilitate (overlay) roadways than to reconstruct them, the City
strives to preser e as much roadway as possible with the limited amount of funds available.
The ove lay program is funded by the City's road fund, which comes primarily from state gas tax
receipts. The bu get for this year's overlay projects is limited to $00,000 a small amount compared to
the total preservation needs of the roadways within the city.
For moue information, call Brian Genovese, this year's overly project manager, at 682-5560, or
on the Internet alit www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw.
i~ublic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
