~ I. I ~ ~
~
December 1, 2000
CONTACT: Mark Snyder, Urban Forester, 682-4800
From Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ADAMS STREET TREES TOPIC OF MEETING ON THURSDAY
A meeting will be held Thursday, December 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the 4J Administration
Auditorium, 200 North Monroe Street, to discuss the trees on Adams Street identified by EWEB
in 1998 as potentially hazardous. At the meeting, Eugene Urban Forester Mark Snyder,
Ashland consulting arborist Pete Seda, and Whiteaker residents Mili White, Adam Wendt, Bob
Graef and Steve Bouton will report on the conclusions of the Adams Street Ad Hoc Committee.
Information also will be provided on Seda's recommendations for hazard mitigation, restorative
pruning, neighborhood tree planting, and the start of undergrounding work by EWEB.
EWER board members approved funding in August to underground electric lines on
Adams from Third to Fifth. Excavation is scheduled to begin in late November. EWEB is also
working with the City to sponsor a volunteer tree planting effort this winter, dubbed "Fifty by
February" by local residents.
Ad Hoc Committee members have been meeting since June with staff and Whiteaker
residents, including members of the Whiteaker Residents Ensuring Survival of the Trees
(WRESTT) to discuss ways to address safety concerns over hazardous trees while
encouraging ongoing local participation in issues such as pruning and new tree planting.

~ Public Works • Administration • City of Eygene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
