N ighbors and community members from throughout the city are invited to help <br /> remove Engli h ivy from forested azeas of the pazk as the first step in ecosystem restoration. <br /> Saturday's vo unteer party will build on the success of last summer's Free the Trees days when <br /> volunteers cl ed ivy from about ten acres of forest trees. Volunteers will meet at 9:30 am at the <br /> F.M. Wilkins Picnic Shelter on Summit Avenue in the pazk and work until 1:00 pm. <br /> Engli h ivy is identified in the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan as one of the <br /> most damagi g elements in the native forest ecosystem. Ivy was introduced into the area as faz <br /> back as the a ly 1920s. It grows rapidly and spreads across the forest floor, squeezing out the <br /> native vegeta ion that is essential for wildlife.
