- > > ~ o <br /> ~ May 23, 200 <br /> CONTACT: Jan Childs, Eugene Planning Director, 682-5208 <br /> From Public nformation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> ELECTED FFICIALS TO HOLD JOINT HEARING MAY 29 ON WEST EUGENE PARKWAY <br /> Seve al proposed planning changes related to the West Eugene Parkway will be the <br /> subject of a oint public hearing on Wednesday, May 29, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Eugene City <br /> Council Cha ber, 777 Pearl Street. <br /> The Baring is being held by the Eugene and Springfield city councils, the Lane County <br /> Board of Co missioners, and the Lane Transit District board to receive public comments on <br /> proposed a endments to TransPlan, the Metro Plan, the Lane County Rural Comprehensive <br /> Plan, and th West Eugene Wetlands Plan. <br /> Tran Plan is the region's long-range transportation plan. The proposed TransPlan <br /> amendment would modify the current list of state-funded area road projects to accommodate <br /> i <br /> the inclusio of additional state funding needed to build the parkway. The proposed <br /> amendment to the Metro Plan and Lane County Rural Comprehensive Plan would take <br /> exceptions statewide planning goals required in conjunction with the TransPlan amendments. <br /> The propos d West Eugene Wetlands Plan amendments address the loss and mitigation of <br /> approximat ly 50 acres of wetlands that need to be filled to construct the parkway. <br /> Peo le wishing to testify at the hearing will have a maximum of three minutes to address <br /> the elected fficials, Testimony also can be provided in writing prior to the hearing, submitted in <br /> i <br /> writing at th hearing, or submitted within seven days of the hearing (the record will be left open <br /> until 5 p.m. n Wednesday, June 5). <br /> The hearing is the final scheduled opportunity for testimony on the parkway planning <br /> ! amendmen s. A hearing was held February 20 before the Eugene, Springfield and Lane <br /> <br /> i <br /> County pla Wing commissions and the Lane County Roads Advisory Committee. Each of those <br /> bodies has orwarded its recommendations to the elected officials. <br /> Foll wing the May 29 hearing, each agency will deliberate individually on a final <br /> decision. he current schedule calls for the Eugene City Council to hold a work session on <br /> June 19 an take final action on July 8.
