The "Trees for Concrete" project is organized by the City <br /> of Eugene eighborWoods program in partnership with Eugene Tree Foundation in an effort to <br /> create mor livable and green downtown environments by replacing concrete with trees and <br /> flowers alo g sidewalks in Eugene's urban core. <br /> Ina dition to the "Trees for Concrete" project, Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) <br /> District For star Rick Rogers will join Paul Ries, ODF's Urban and Community Forestry Program <br /> Manager, t present Mayor Torrey with Eugene's 25th Tree City USA award. Tree City USA, a <br /> program of the National Arbor Day Foundation and sponsored by ODF, recognizes cities that <br /> have Bevel pad programs that plant and care for trees. Twenty-five frees were selected to be <br /> planted thi Arbor Day in honor of the community receiving this award for the 25"' year in a row. <br /> Are, r Day is America's national tree holiday, a day set aside to plant ceremonial trees, <br /> educate ildren about the importance of trees and honor the important role trees play in the daily <br /> lives of pe ple in communities across the country. This project was selected to commemorate <br /> Arbor Day his year because the purpose of Trees for Concrete so closely matches the mission of <br /> Arbor Day Founded in 1872, Arbor Day is now celebrated in all 50 states.
