August 6, 20 4 <br /> ~ CONTACT: Teri Higgins, Project Manager, (541) 682-8462 <br /> From Public formation Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> <br /> i FOR IMMED ATE RELEASE <br /> Willamette Street Paving Project Begins August 9 <br /> Work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 9, on a project to repave Willamette Street <br /> between 13tH and 19tH avenues and convert Willamette Street to two-way operation between 13tH <br /> and 18tH ave ues. <br /> The 600,000 project is part of Eugene's pavement preservation program, which is <br /> funded in pa by Eugene's local fuel tax. Eugene Sand 8~ Gravel is the general contractor. The <br /> project ism Waged by the Eugene Public Works Engineering Division. While the focus of the <br /> work is pave ent preservation other improvements, such as lighting, traffic signal and <br /> pedestrian c ossing improvements, will be made during construction. <br /> The rst phase of construction begins August 9 and includes installing underground <br /> conduit fort ffic signal cables and other preparatory work. Excavation and subgrade repairs in <br /> the intersect on of Willamette Street and 18tH Avenue are scheduled to occur at night for several <br /> days at the nd of August; however, most of the work will be done during daytime hours. <br /> The ain paving phase is scheduled to begin mid-September and will consist of grinding <br /> off the existi g surface and applying a new asphalt surface. <br /> The anal phase in early October will be the restriping of Willamette Street to <br /> accommod a two-way traffic between 13tH and 18tH avenues. All work is scheduled to be <br /> completed ymid-October. <br /> Duri g construction, access will be provided to homes and businesses in the work zone. <br /> However, th ough traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes such as Oak and Pear( Street to <br /> avoid delay .For current information on this and other area road projects, call the Metro <br /> Roadwork otline at 984-8484, or on the web at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic.
