On Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City's Community Gardens and Valunteers in P~rics programs are looking for volunteers to h®Ip install two raised beds (that were constructed by volunteers in April) and build 10 more. The gardens site is located off of Day Island Road just east of Aitan Biker Park's main parking lot. Many hands are needed for the job which involves surtacing the ground with finely graded, ..,compacted gravel and building the raised beds, each 50 square feet in size and made of 2X12 Redwood lullmber. The beds will come in three styles---for sitting, standing, and for use with wheelchairs. "These garden plots will be the first accessible plots available at any of the six community gardens 'across the city,„ says Community Gardens Manager Matt McRae. "V1le are very excited about offering this ;opportunity to the community this season." Volunteers are welcome for part or the whole day. In addition, volunteers of all skill levels are wNelcame; all necessary tools, materials, and instruction will be provided by the City's Volunteers in Parks program.
