The <br /> campaign is part of a Day of Caring for T" grade students at the school. School organizers hope to cultivate <br /> tF~e spirit of service by giving the students the hands-on opportunity to contribute to several community <br /> organizations and programs, including the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space, BRING Recycling, and <br /> Food for Lane County Grassroots Gardens, Greenhill Humane Society, and .St. Vincent de Paul. Crews of <br /> approximately 10 students can be found at the following park sites from approximately 9;30 a.m. to 2 p.m: <br /> 1~ Hendricks Park: Students will help remove invasive species, such as blackberry and herb Robert, along <br /> the Oak Knoll trail, a recently restored trail that travels through a highly sensitive remnant of the <br /> VNitlamette Valley oak woodlands habitat that was once a prominent part of the valley landscape. For <br /> specrfic ~ location information, contact Hendricks Park staff, Ginny Aifriend, 868 4783 (Dell) or Jason <br /> 6lazar, 543-6869. <br /> Delta Ponds: Students wilt help University of Oregon Service Learning Program students and City of <br /> Eugene natural resources staff to monitor amphibians and turtles, prepare turtle nesting sites and mulch <br /> and enhance native vegetation at Delta Ponds. For specific location information, contact Lauri Mullen, <br /> Delta Ponds Habitat Enhancement Coordinator, at 968156 (cell). <br /> ? Alton Baker Park, Whilamut Natural Area: Students will meet with Nearby Nature from 9:30 a.m.-noon <br /> and learn more about the ecosystems 1n Alton Baker Park while helping with restoration activities in the <br /> riparian forest along the Willamette giver. Then, from noon-2 p.m., the students will help the City of <br /> Eugene's Natural Resources Maintenance crew tackle Scot's Broom, an invasive plant, also in the <br /> riparian forest.
