i

- - > > .s ~ .o
July 28, 2005
CONTACT: Steve Gallup, Project Manager, (541) 682-8460
From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Work to Begin Monday on Improving 3`d/4"' Connector Street Between Lincoln and Pearl
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 1, on a project to improve the 3`d/4'n
connector street between Lincoln and Pearl streets.
Delta Construction Company has been awarded the contract for the $1.8 million project,
which is funded through a combination of property owner assessments and system
development charge (SDC) revenues. The project is expected to be substantially complete in
late November.
The project was identified in Eugene's capital improvement program to create safer
j traveling conditions for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists using the badly deteriorated east-
west route just north of the railroad tracks in downtown Eugene. The intersections at each end
of the project will be realigned to further improve traveling safety.
Improvements consist of a 32-foot wide roadway with two travel lanes, landscaped
medians, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, street lights, street trees, traffic calming, and
wastewater and stormwater drainage systems. In addition, the design is intended to
accommodate future north-south connections between the train station, Skinner Butte and the
Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House.
During construction, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays
and detours. The intersections of 4cn Avenue with Lincoln Street and 3`d Avenue with Pearl
Street will be closed for extended periods during the project.
~ For up-to-date information on this and other area construction projects, call the metro
II roadwork hotline at 984-8484 or visit the City of Eugene's website at www.eugene-or.gov.
Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
