The Grant Chase Memorial Bench is located on the lawn <br /> ge to the east of Birch Lane. <br /> i The bench is a memorial to Grant B. Chase, who was a longtime member of the <br /> hododendron Society and vice president of the society in 1995. Chase was born in Eugene in <br /> 1 26. He worked in the famil business, Chase Mechanical Contractin until his retirement in <br /> <br /> ~ir Y 9 <br /> 1 81. He devoted much of his time to the Eugene Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society <br /> a d to planting rhododendrons in his own yard. Grant and his wife, Dottie, often visited the <br /> j ododendron garden at Hendricks Park, and they particularly enjoyed the many seating areas. <br /> Grant Chase died in 1995. His family thought it was a fitting tribute to him and a lovely <br /> a dition to Hendricks Park to create a place for visitors to sit and enjoy the beauty around them. <br /> ~ he bench was crafted by local sculptor Jerry Carlin and features a curved steel seat and basalt <br /> r ck legs. The inscription on the bench reads "He loved nature and all of its offerings." <br /> Following the dedication ceremony, an informal reception will follow in the F. M. Wilkins <br /> helter, across the road from the bench. The Cascadia Folk Quartet from Portland will play music <br /> i <br /> Id ring the reception. All gardening enthusiasts, friends and the general public are invited. <br /> I <br /> <br />
