REI employees at local stores have identified community parks
in their neighborhoods that are of particular interest to their customers and offer outdoor
recreation opportunities. Together they've identified 100 parks to receive $10,000 each.
The recently formed Eugene Parks Foundation is excited to have been selected by REI
Eugene to receive one of the 100 grants which will benefit the Spencer Butte/Ridgeline
Trails System through trail enhancements, maintenance, and conservation projects. The
grant supports one of the first efforts of the Parks Foundation to raise money to assist the
Eugene Parks and Open Space division with their efforts in the Ridgeline Trail system.
In Collaboration with the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division and Mayor Kitty
Piercy, REI Eugene is holding a Community recognition event on Saturday, April 29 at
10:30 a.m, at which they will present the REI Parks Grant to the Eugene Parks
Foundation.
" e above their cit from the
The citizens of Eugene have long loved the forested ridgelin y
original donation of Hendricks Park, to the grassroots fundraising effort that purchased
280 acres vtop Spencer Butte. Recognizing the affinity for these scenic high places, the
Eugene Parks and Open Space Division has in recent years made one of their priorities
to connect those ridges with a trail encircling the southern hills of the city.
The Eugene Parks Foundation is dedicated to improving and enhancing our community's
parks, open spaces, and recreational services. Through fund raising efforts the founds-
, tion seeks to be a catalyst for park projects that might otherwise not be possible within
budget constraints. The Eugene Parks Foundation welcomes any kind of donation to
~ add to the REI grant in the Ridgeline Trail initiative.
