6 May 2004
Parks and Open Space Division
1820 Roosevelt
Eugene, Oregon 97402
attn: Johnny Medlin
Division Manager
Mr. Medlin,
We are writing on behalf of the Willamette Valley Freeriders, a burgeoning group of
cyclists who seek out technical riding opportunities currently unavailable in the
Eugene area. Common aspects of freeriding include dirt jumps, creating stunts from
natural terrain, and riding above the ground on built terrain bridges. This form of riding
is rapidly increasing in popularity and an effort by the city to meet this demand would
be appreciated.
Finding an area to create a bike park would ensure oversight of all riding terrain and
structures, maximizing rider safety, while also accounting for environmental concerns.
Several WVF members have significant experience with trail building and built terrain
construction. The Willamette Valley Freeriders support a sustainable bike park
development and would be glad to offer ideas and suggestions. Thank you for the
time in considering this matter. We look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Al/k V(114/1,
Hollis Brake Steve Glass Park Willis
wvf@willamettevalleyffeeriders.org
k t4T-tin
e( A1N\ JEFF J
