October 17, 2013

CONTACT: Katie Marwitz, Project Manager, 541-501-0380

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Willamette Street Set to Reopen on Friday
Willamette Street between 18 and 24 avenues is scheduled to reopen to through traffic
thth
on Friday afternoon, Oct. 18.
The five-block section of Willamette Street from 18 to 23 avenues has been under
thrd
construction since early August, with through traffic detoured to alternate routes much of the time.
When the street reopens on Friday, motorists should watch for new lane configurations on
Willamette Street at 18 Avenue and also for new bicycle lanes on Willamette Street. Earlier this
th
week, bicycle lanes were striped from 17 to 23 avenues for southbound cycle traffic and from
thrd
24 to 20 avenues for northbound cycle traffic. Bike lanes also were added on 20 Avenue from
ththth
Willamette to Oak streets and Oak Street from 20 to 17 avenues.
thth
The fully repaired street includes rebuilt crosswalks, a new traffic diverter at 19 and
th
Willamette and a newly constructed asphalt driving surface throughout the length of the project.
Some minor clean-up work remains, but no more significant lane closures are anticipated.
Wildish Construction was the general contractor on the $936,000 project, which was funded
by a combination of local gas taxes, a voter-approved bond measure to fix city streets and
transportation system development charges.
For more information on this and other City of Eugene road projects, go to www.eugene-
or.gov/traffic.

# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
