That
section of 18 Avenue, which includes the intersection of Jefferson Street, is scheduled to remain
th
closed until Aug. 12 to allow the new concrete surface to harden sufficiently to handle traffic loads.
Through traffic on 18 Avenue is encouraged to use major east-west alternative routes such as
th
11 Avenue, 13 Avenue and 28/29 avenues. North-south traffic on Jefferson Street can use
thththth
alternate routes such as Polk Street (which is scheduled to be reopened by Thursday, Aug. 1), or
Willamette Street (which is scheduled for repair work beginning Aug. 12). Drivers who choose to use
neighborhood streets to avoid construction zones are advised to observe speed limits and respect the
people who live in those neighborhoods.
The construction on 18 Avenue is scheduled to be substantially completed by completed by
th
mid-September.
