<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />July 17, 2013 <br /> <br />CONTACT: Jenifer Willer, Project Manager, 541-501-0376 <br /> <br />From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938 <br /> <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> <br /> <br />18th Avenue to Close at Polk Street on Monday for Repair Work <br />A two-block section of West 18 Avenue that includes the intersection of 18 Avenue and <br />thth <br />Polk Street will be closed for paving repairs for approximately one week beginning Monday, July 22. <br />The work on 18 Avenue between the Westmoreland Park Bridge and Tyler Street is the <br />th <br />first of four phases of a $3 million reconstruction project on West 18 Avenue between the <br />th <br />Westmoreland bridge and Washington Street. In each phase, crews from Knife River Corp. will <br />remove the existing concrete or asphalt surface and construct a new concrete roadway. Each phase <br />will take approximately one week to complete, including time for the new concrete surface to cure <br />sufficiently to handle traffic. <br />After the first phase is completed, crews are scheduled to do the section from Jackson Street <br />to midway between Monroe and Madison streets, then Tyler Street to east of Jackson Street, and <br />finally from Monroe to Washington streets, including the intersection of West 18 Avenue and <br />th <br />Jefferson Street. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by mid-September. <br />While sections of 18 Avenue are closed for construction, motorists will be directed to use <br />th <br />alternate routes. Arterial and collector streets such as 11, 13, 24 and 28 avenues are <br />thththth <br />recommended for east-west traffic.
