May 29, 2013

CONTACT: Katie Marwitz, Project Manager, 541-501-0380

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Park Road Repairs Coming in June

Access to two of Eugene’s best-known community parks will be easier as the result
of a park road repair project slated in June.
The paving project includes repairs in Hendricks Park (Fairmount Boulevard from
Floral Hill Drive to the west park entrance) and the upper portion of Skinner Butte Park
(East Third Avenue from Pearl Street to Skinner Butte Loop, Skinner Butte Loop from Third
Avenue to Lincoln Street, Lincoln Street from Third Avenue to near the climbing columns,
and West Second Avenue from Lincoln Street to Lincoln Alley).
Knife River Corporation has been hired to do the repair work, which includes
surface milling and paving as well as full-depth repairs on the heavily damaged Henricks
Park roadway. Construction is scheduled to begin in early June and be completed several
weeks later, weather permitting.
Hendricks Park is Eugene's oldest city park. Its 80 acres includes a world-renowned
rhododendron garden and a native plant garden.
Skinner Butte Park includes 100 acres of property along the Willamette River just
north of downtown Eugene. It’s upper portion includes the Skinner Butte overlook and the
Columns climbing area.
Sections of the park roadways will be closed during construction. However, access
to the parks, including the Skinner Butte overlook, will be provided via alternate routes.
For directions on how to access park areas or to check on reservations or other scheduled
activities in the parks, call the Eugene Parks and Open Space Division at 541-682-4800.
Funding for the $500,000 project is coming from the City of Eugene’s road fund. For
updates on this and other local road repair projects go to www.keepusmoving.info.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
