May 22, 2013

CONTACT: Katie Marwitz, Project Manager, 541-501-0380

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lorane Highway Repair Project Starts Week of May 27 in South Eugene
Watch for periodic closures of Lorane Highway starting Tuesday, May 28, between
Paige Avenue and Washington Street in south Eugene.
Knife River Corporation, working under contract to the Eugene Public Works
Department, will fix the existing roadway using a recycling process called full-depth
reclamation. In this process the existing road structure is mixed in place with cement to
create a stable road base, and an asphalt pavement surface is applied as the top driving
surface.
The roadway will not be widened, and the project does not include improvements
such as sidewalks, curbs and gutters, street lights, or traffic calming. Care will be taken to
protect the trees along the road.
During construction, the road will be closed to through traffic in two phases: Paige
Street to Friendly Street; and Friendly Street to Washington Street. Local access will be
allowed with delays. The project is expected to be substantially completed by late June.
Funding for the $400,000 project is coming from the City of Eugene’s road fund.
For updates on this and other local road repair projects go to
www.keepusmoving.info.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
