Hi Kevin,

The supervisors met and came up with a proposed strategy for purchasing and using Iphones with the ~600 dollars in
one-time Stormwater funds. We’d like to get your blessing before we proceed.

We’d purchase one IPhone 4 for each zone (5 total) @~$100/ phone. We’d also advocate for PW Maintenance to
purchase one to replace the after-hours phone.

The phones would initially be additional costs as they wouldn’t replace anyone’s phone. This would enable them to be
shared as a needed. Staff would be given training on how to use it and would understand that the phone is to be left in
the crew room at the end of the day. This would make the phones available on the weekends for weekend coverage.

If positions are eliminated with budget reductions, we’d get rid of those positions’ phones and the reduction of those
phones would help offset the additional monthly costs of the new IPhones. If we have funding in FY 14, we may look to
replace staff cell phones with IPhones and possibly assign the phones purchased in this round to staff but that will
depend on whether or not we can afford it. At least with 5 floating phones, we should be able to get people trained on
the use of the found items and camp cleanup procedures and this creates a technology bridge for us for the future.

If you approve of the strategy, I’ll need to know what account code to use for the one-time charges ASAP so I can order
the phones this week and then we’ll charge the ongoing charges to each of the regions proportionally.

-Jesse
2
