December 20, 2012

CONTACT: Damon Joyner, Surface Maintenance Supervisor, 541-682-4835

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Second Round of Leaf Pickups Scheduled to Begin Dec. 27 in Eugene
The second and final round collection service in Eugene is scheduled to begin Dec. 27.
During the first round, Public Works crews collected more than 9,700 cubic yards of leaves. Leaf
volumes are generally lighter during the second round of collections, which allows crews to do
pickups on unimproved streets.
Here’s the second-round schedule (all dates are subject to change based primarily on
weather conditions because the same crews that pick up leaves respond to winter storms):

West/Central Eugene – Dec. 27 to Jan. 7

North Eugene – Jan. 6 to Jan. 15

Southeast Eugene – Jan. 14 to Jan. 23

Southwest Eugene – Jan. 22 to Jan. 28

Residents are reminded that they should not put leaves in bike lanes. Particularly on
unimproved streets, make sure leaves can be picked up without the equipment leaving the hard
surface. Do not put leaves ditches or landscaped areas. Don’t pile leaves on valve boxes or sprinkler
or next to fences or utility poles.
Other leaf collection tips:

Place leaves in the street a few days before collection is scheduled in your

neighborhood, keeping in mind that crews could come by on any of the days in the
published schedule.

Leave at least 15 feet between leaf piles and parked cars.

Don’t place leaves in the street after the second pickup has been completed in your

neighborhood. Residents are responsible for removing any leaves or other debris
not picked up by the City.
You can track the progress of the collection crews and see which areas have been completed
by going to www.eugene-or.gov/leaf and clicking on the “Leaf Collection Progress” link. For more
information about Eugene’s leaf program, call 541-682-4800.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
