In
most cases the flooding is due to leaf-clogged storm drains coupled with ongoing heavy rain. Typically crews are able to
relieve localized flooding by vacuuming or raking leaves and other debris from the catch basins. Be cautious when
driving thorough standing water, and keep street workers safe by driving slowly and giving them plenty of room.

Crews today also will focus on leaf collection to reduce the amount of debris in the streets. Residents can assist Public
Works by following two simple tips:

- Don't put leaves in the street too early. In stormy weather even carefully piled leaves can quickly wash into catch
basins and cause flooding problems for you and your neighbors.

- Keep parked cars at least 15 feet from leaf piles. Crews and equipment need plenty of room to collect leaves. Cars and
other obstructions slow down the work or, in some cases, mean that the crews have to move on without picking up the
leaves.

More information about the fall leaf program, including updated schedule information, is available at www.eugene-
or.gov/leaf.

To report flooding situations or other street hazards, call Eugene Public Works at 541-682-4800.

1
