September 7, 2012

CONTACT:
John Bonham, Project Manager, 541-682-5300

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Work Starts Monday on Repairs to North Bank Path
Work is scheduled to begin Monday on a $700,000 project to improve a portion of the
North Bank Path in Alton Baker Park.
Kipco, Inc., of Eugene has been awarded the bid to repair about 2/3 of a mile of the
riverbank multi-use path between the DeFazio Bridge and Leisure Lane. The work includes
replacing slippery exposed-aggregate surfaces and rebuilding thin and narrow asphalt sections
to a standard 12-foot-wide concrete surface. Lighting will be installed along the path between
the DeFazio Bridge and the boat landing; no lighting will be installed east of the boat landing.
Beginning Wednesday, the North Bank Path will be closed between the DeFazio Bridge
and Leisure Lane. Cyclists and pedestrians will be detoured on Day Island Road. Access will be
maintained to the boat landing, the picnic shelters and the Cuthbert Amphitheater and other
locations along Day Island Road.
Plans call for the work to be substantially completed by late October. Funding for the
project is coming from federal grant programs, with the local match provided from the City’s
transportation system development charge fund.
Meanwhile, work continues on repairs to the West Bank Path from the Greenway Bridge
near Valley River Center to Stephens Lane off River Road. That project is scheduled to be
completed in mid-October.
For updates on this and other bike and road work projects, go to
www.keepusmoving.info.

# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
