Blue green algae
(actually a cyanobacteria and not algae at all) sometimes produce toxins that can be
harmful to swimmers and other water users, including dogs.
Rather than testing each blue -green algal bloom when it occurs, Parks and Open Space
has opted to post signage at Golden Gardens Park when the blue -green algae first
become noticeable. Signs were posted around the ponds and at most entry points to the
park on July 3, 2012.
Attached are copies of the poster and brochure produced by Oregon Department of
Health Services. Please feel free to pass these along.
Z k_,
A
anima(SafetyBrochur
e_2010WEB. pdf
HABs_dogSafety201
0.
