CITY OF EUGENE <br />UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK CLASS "C" OPERATOR'S .TRAINING <br />AS REQUIRED BY DEQ FOR FUEL ISLAND ATTENDANTS OR ANYONE DISPENSING MOTOR FUELS <br />The purpose of this training document is to ensure that emergency procedures are followed in handling motor fuels, <br />and to protect you, those around you, and the environment while dispensing motor fuels. <br />Your Responsibilities as a Class C Operator: <br />• No smoking or open flame is allowed within 100 feet of any fuel islands or storage tank areas. <br />• No engine shall be running while dispensing motor fuels into the vehicle. <br />• Alarms on the fuel systems are to be acknowledged and Fleet Services is to be notified. <br />• Watch for hazards in the area. If something looks out. of place,. it probably is. Investigate and notify Fleet <br />Services. <br />Know the location and proper use of all fire extinguishers at fueling locations. Don't wait for an emergency to <br />read the instructions, make sure you are familiar with the fire extinguishers now. They are affixed to the <br />fuel.station support posts and on the adjacent wall. Please take time to read the instructions attached to the <br />extinguishers upon your first fueling of a city vehicle. <br />• Know the location of all spill clean -up supplies that are provided on the fuel island and how to properly use <br />them: If you. have questions.a.bout.the supplies or their use, ask Fleet Services for assistance. <br />• Know the location of the Emergency Stop Switches for fuel sites. At 1820 Roosevelt, these switches are located <br />on the entry keypad and the Southwest exterior corner of the building (marked by a sign). These.switches <br />should be turned off any time there is an accident or problem on or near the fuel islands. Examples are: fire, <br />earthquake, dispenser hit, vehicle drives off with hose in vehicle, etc. Please take the time to locate this <br />switch upon your first fueling of a city vehicle. <br />• Vehicles' tanks .are to be "Topped Off ".unless tank truly is not full. It is against the law to top off a vehicle's <br />tank after the tank has been deemed full. <br />• Know the emergency phone numbers for fuel sites.
