June 18, 2008

Golden Garden Park
Vehicle Access Permit Holder
For dog training

Subject: Golden Gardens Park Closure

Dear Sir or Madam:

In 2006, Eugene voters passed a Parks and Open Space bond measure. One of the
bonds projects was for safety and environmental improvements to Golden Gardens
Park. The first phase of this project consisting of earthwork and bank modification
will begin July 7, 2008 and will continue through October 31. In the fall, the next
phase of planting native shrubs and seeding-in of native grasses and forbs will take
place. These plantings will establish over the fall and spring making this a sensitive
time to avoid impacts to the plant materials. For these reasons, Golden Garden
Park will be closed to all patron use during the construction period. The park is
anticipated to reopen to pedestrian access in late fall but will remain closed to
vehicle access and most other activities through the plant establishment and
renovation period.

While we continue to be in support of retriever training at Golden Gardens, we do
not feel this activity will be compatible with the needs of the park through the
months of construction and plant establishment. Therefore, all previously issued
dog training Vehicle Access Permits are cancelled effective July 6, 2008.

You will be welcome to submit a written request for permit renewal after
June 1, 2009 and staff will reissue Vehicle Access Permits for your dog training
purposes. In addition, at that time we expect to have available information about
specific vehicle travel paths, parking sites and sensitive areas to avoid so as not to
conflict with any remaining ongoing renovation or establishment of native plants.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this exciting renovation and
construction period to enhance Golden Garden Park. We look forward to the
continued future uses of this park by patrons such as you.

Sincerely,

John Clark
Natural Resource Maintenance Supervisor
541-682-4826
