MATSLER Clara T
From:BJORKLUND Neil H
Sent:Friday, March 02, 2012 3:30 PM
To:MATSLER Clara T
Subject:FW: Dog Training Rules
Finally heard back from Brandon at ODFW. He confirmed that there won’t be any state restrictions on dog training at
Golden Gardens.

Neil

From: Brandon Reishus [mailto:brandon.s.reishus@state.or.us]
Sent: Friday, March 02, 2012 1:42 PM
To: BJORKLUND Neil H
Subject: RE: Dog Training Rules

Neil,

The Department adopted new “Dog Training Rules” at its June 2011 Commission meeting.

Previously, the Department had rules prohibiting dogs running at large or dog training in productive wildlife habitat (or
game bird nesting habitat) during April – July. This rule was struck as part of the revision. Obviously, land owners or
managers could still prohibit dogs at anytime they wanted or anywhere they wanted on lands under their
control. Additionally, state law still protects wildlife from unauthorized harassment by dogs or humans.

We also adopted rules allowing people to utilize (release, pursue and shoot) domestically-raised game birds when
training dogs. Persons must have a permit for the release and the new rules allow the take of those specific birds for
training only. Obviously, any entity could restrict or prohibit those activities on lands under their control.

That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. Give me a call if you need any further clarification.

Cheers

Brandon S.
