As outlined in the Request for Release of Funds
and the Expenditure Tracking sheet, we are requesting a reimbursement of $70,557.75. Our
total grant award was $204,368 and we were previously reimbursed for $111,328.53. After
this current reimbursement, we will have $22,481.72 in grant funds remaining.
Between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011 activities under this grant included the following: (1)
control of the emergent weeds yellow flag iris and purple loosestrife; (2) watering,
maintenance, and inspection of trees and shrubs that were planted in 2009 and 2010; and (3)
weed control on approximately 12 acres.
In September 2010, we carried out plant inspections to determine percent survival of those
trees and shrubs that were planted in 2009 and 2010. For the 2009 plantings, overall survival
was 81 %, which is quite good for the second year. The contractor responsible for these
plantings did an exceptional job with the maintenance and watering of plants, therefore the
City did not require them to replant in 2010. For the 2010 plantings, nine of the species had
survival rates below the required 80% survival. The City required the contractor responsible
for the 2010 plantings to replant 406 trees and shrubs to make up the difference.
In addition to plant survival monitoring, City of Eugene staff conducted annual photopoint
monitoring in September 2010. These photos will be included in the final report.
Three months of work remains on this grant, including the maintenance, watering, and
inspection of the 2010 plantings, and supplementary invasive species control. A final project
completion report and final reimbursement request will be submitted to Oregon Watershed
Enhancement Board by February 29, 2012.
We are grateful to the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board for supporting this project. We
remain committed to continuing our stewardship of this project and ensuring that the benefits
are maintained and enhanced through time. Thank you kindly for your support.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 541- 682 -4925.
Sincerely,
Lauri Holts
Natural Resources Enhancement Coordinator, Parks and Open Space Division
