September 9, 2011

CONTACT:
Brian Davies, Public Works Engineering, 541-682-5676

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

th
18 Avenue Closed Between Pearl and Patterson Starting Monday
th
An extended closure of 18 Avenue between Pearl and Patterson streets begins Monday,
Sept. 12.
th
The two-week closure is necessary to reconstruct that portion of 18 Avenue. Crews have
th
been working on the section of 18 Avenue between Washington and Willamette streets, and
some work will continue in that section next week.
th
To reconstruct the roadway crews will excavate the existing roadway, making 18 Avenue
and the cross streets and alleys at High, Mill and Ferry impassable. Residents and businesses in
that area have been notified on how they can access their property during construction.
ththth
Motorists on 18 Avenue will be detoured to 17 or 19 avenues. Extra caution is advised
for motorists using these detour routes, particularly in the vicinity of South Eugene High School on
thth
19 Avenue and in the residential neighborhood on 17 Avenue.
Meanwhile, construction continues on two other projects in the south Eugene area.
thth
Reconstruction work is scheduled on Hilyard Street between 26 and 30 avenues, and motorists
on Hilyard at times may be detoured to Alder Street due to the narrowness of the roadway in the
th
vicinity of 28 Avenue.
On Alder Street in the west campus area, final paving is scheduled Monday through
th
Wednesday. This work will include the closure of 13 Avenue between Alder and Kincaid streets
from 7 p.m. Monday until noon on Tuesday. Final paving includes the application of a sticky
asphalt material called tack seal, and motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid driving on this
material that can stick to tires and other parts of vehicles.
For more information on these and other area road projects, go to www.keepusmoving.info.

# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
