With that work now completed, the City’s contractor will
remove the top layer of deteriorated asphalt and haul it away to make new asphalt mixes. Then a
giant machine will pulverize the existing road bed and mix cement into the pulverized material,
which is then compacted and allowed to harden. Finally, a new asphalt surface will be constructed
to complete the in-place reconstruction.
Plans call for half the width of the roadway to be worked on at a time, which will leave
enough room for one narrow traffic lane in each direction. Slow traffic and occasional delays are
likely, so motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.
Access to all businesses and facilities, including Hilyard Community Center and Amazon
Pool, will be provided at all times. Signs and flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.
thth
Once the reconstruction work is finished between 24 and 26 avenues, crews will move to
thth
the final section between 26 and 30 avenues. That work is scheduled to begin after Labor Day
thth
and be wrapped up in late September. The section of Hilyard Street between 30 and 34 Avenues
was completed in June.
Wildish Construction is the general contractor on the project, which is designed and
managed by the Eugene Public Works Department. The primary source of funding for the project is
the 2008 voter-approved bond measure to fix city streets.
For updates on this and other city road projects, go to www.keepusmoving.info or follow
Twitter.com/EugenePW.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
