July 7, 2011

CONTACT:
Jenifer Willer, Project Manager, 541-682-5364

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paving Repairs Start Monday on Coburg Road
Paving repairs are scheduled to begin Monday, July 11, on Coburg Road between
Oakway and Willakenzie roads.
The first phase of construction will include spot repairs where the road bed has failed at
various locations along the 1.3-mile-long major arterial. Initially, crews from Eugene Sand
Construction will be working at night in the commercial areas at the north and south ends of the
project area, then moving to daytime repairs in the residential areas.
Once the spot repairs and some minor pedestrian ramp work have been completed, the
work will shift to overlay construction in which the top several inches of deteriorated asphalt
paving area ground off and a new asphalt surface is constructed. In commercial sections, the
work will take place at night to allow for only one travel lane in each direction and reduce
construction-related congestion. Work in residential areas will be done during the daytime.
The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by mid-October.
Access to all properties will be maintained during construction, but some driveways will
have limited accessibility during specific operations. Motorists should anticipate lane closures
and delays in the construction zone. The use of alternate routes is recommended.
Utility crews have been working on Coburg Road for several months prior to the start of
paving work to repair and relocate underground lines. That work has been completed and
should help prevent the need to cut into the roadway after the new paving is in place.
The primary source of funding for the $1.9 million Coburg Road paving project is the
2008 voter-approved bond measure to fix city streets.
Traffic updates on this and other road projects in the metro area are available at
www.keepusmoving.info.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
