Your funds are
considered "local match" for our Council Support grant. This match leverages
over $5o,000 per year in state funds to this watershed and helps us compete
for many other grants.
This year has been very productive. Here is a brief synopsis of activities,
itemized to match our scope of watershed services. Some of the services
described in the original contract were complete the first year and are not
mentioned here.
1. Conservation Action Planning (CAP). The Council provided aquatic
habitat and water quality information to support the CAP for the
geographic area that includes west Eugene.
2. Restoration Projects. The Council worked on numerous restoration
projects, detailed as follows:
a. Oak savanna and upland prairie. The Council worked on 4
projects that provide oak savanna, woodland, and upland and
wet prairie habitat in areas surrounding Eugene to augment and
benefit the species that frequent the West Eugene Wetlands
and Ridgeline habitats. These included the Sogge, Murphy,
Johnson and Erickson properties. As a result of successful
outreach, for which the Council secured private grants, we
initiated and received funding for the first in another large
complex of these projects with the new Kime project just this
year.
b. Wild Iris Ridge Project, & Rivers to Ridges Partnership. The
Council has continued work on the Wild Iris Ridge project for
upland habitat, including leading educational tours and "how -
to" tours to help private landowners and citizens understand
what it takes to restore and maintain the essential ecological
qualities of these habitats. The Council continues to serve at
both the executive and implementation level of the Rivers To
Ridges Partnership and shares knowledge and plans of use to
the City in those forums.
c. Amazon Creek. We are extremely excited to report that we
have been successful in securing private foundation funding to
monitor pesticides in Amazon Creek, in both the urban and
agricultural sections, and reduce levels as appropriate based on
