Crews from the Eugene Water & Electric Board already have been working in this
area to upgrade the underground water system prior to paving repairs. Also during this phase 14
sidewalk access ramps will be rebuilt to new standards. Although the “mill and fill” pavement repairs
in this section tend to go quicker than the full reconstruction required on other portions of the project,
delays are likely, and West Amazon Drive will be closed for several days when repairs are made at
that location.
The second phase of the project, scheduled in mid-August, will rebuild Hilyard Street from
thth
24 to 26 avenues using a cost-saving road-recycling technique called in-place recycling or partial-
depth reclamation. The final phase, scheduled to begin after Labor Day, will be a mix of surface
thth
repairs and in-place recycling between 26 and 30 avenues. When work is completed in late
September, a total of four lane miles will have been repaired using 10,000 tons of warm-mix asphalt.
The primary source of funding for the project comes from the 2008 voter-approved bond
measure to fix city streets. Eugene Sand Construction is the general contractor for the project, which
is designed and managed by the Eugene Public Works Department.
For updates on this and other city road projects, go to keepusmoving.info or follow
Twitter.com/EugenePW.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
