• •
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON
June 4, 2007
To: Off-Campus Work-Study Employers
From: Kyna Burgett, Work-Study Coordinator
Susan Carver, Work-Study Assistant
Subject: University of Oregon Federal Work-Study
Enclosed is a copy of the May month-end Federal Work-Study report for your agency. Each
month you will receive a report from the UO Financial Aid Office that shows your student
employees' payroll history. It will include the students' work-study award amount, wages
paid, and the remaining allotment. Please be aware that awards can change, so monitor your
monthly report carefully.
It is your responsibility to track the individual student Federal Work-Study awards. Wages
earned that exceed a student's work-study award will not be paid to the student by the UO
Payroll Office. Your agency will be required to pay the student directly if you allow a student
employee to work beyond the work-study allotment. If you wish to retain the student
employee after his/her work-study is depleted, the student must be placed on your agency's
payroll,
Please be aware that there are two types of work-study, Federal Work-Study and UO Work-
Study. Your contract with the University of Oregon covers only Federal Work-Study not UO
Work-Study. UO Work-Study cannot be used by off-campus employers.
During the academic year, students must remain enrolled at least half-time (6 credits for an
undergraduate and 5 credits for a graduate) to maintain Federal Work-Study eligibility. Please
stay in contact with your work-study employees regarding their enrollment level. Student work
hours are limited to 20 hours per week while classes are in session. However a student may
work up to 40 hours per week during breaks. The work-study award will not pay overtime,
therefore, if a student works more than 40 hours per week, your agency will be required to pay
100% of the overtime wages directly to the student.
The Payroll Office has posted a Work-Study Calendar in the Quick Reference Section of the
Off-Campus Employer Website at http://baowww.uoregon.edu/OffCampus/ws.htm. This
calendar will provide you with dates of eligibility for work-study awards.
If you have any questions regarding the Federal Work-Study program, please feel free to contact
either of us: Kyna at 346-1173, kmbacon@uoregon.edu or Susan at 346-1182,,
scarver@uoregon.edu. Thank you for your continuing support of the Federal Work-Study
Program, the students at the University of Oregon and our community.
OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS
1278 University of Oregon, Eugene OR 97403-1278 Telephone (541) 346-3221 Long Distance (800) 760-6953
An equal-opporluni(y, nJJ'i...... e-action institution con mittotl fn culhi rnl diversity and compliance with the A,- mean with Disabilities Act
