November 23, 2010

CONTACT:
Kurt Yeiter, Transportation System Manager, 541-682-8379

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Comments Sought on Eugene’s Future Transportation System
The future of Eugene’s transportation system is open for comment. And if past
transportation planning efforts are a good indicator, there will be lots of comments leading up to
far-reaching decisions.
Eugene is developing a comprehensive strategy to address the community’s
transportation needs over the next 20 years. The area’s current transportation plan, called
TransPlan, was adopted in 2001. That plan foresaw increased emphasis on bike and pedestrian
networks, transit connections to mixed use centers, and bus rapid transit – visions that have
become reality over the past decade.
The Eugene Transportation System Plan will look at all transportation modes, including
freight, pedestrians and bicyclists, transit, rail networks, airport and personal vehicles, to see
what changes could be made to better meet the long-term needs of Eugene’s residents,
businesses, and visitors. Public involvement is crucial to the success of this project, to
understand the goals of the community for the development of Eugene over the next 20 years.
A survey has been developed to gather public input about the future of local
transportation. The survey, called Central Lane Transportation System Plans, is intended to
gather information to be used by a number of local agencies, including the cities of Eugene,
Springfield and Coburg, Lane Transit District, and the Lane Council of Governments. Soon an
interactive map will be provided in which comments can be “pinned” directly to a regional
transportation map.
A link to the survey can be found on the Eugene Transportation System Plan web site at
www.EugeneTSP.org. The web site also provides background information, links to various
transportation planning documents, and places to sign up for e-mail alerts and submit online
comments.
For more information about Eugene’s Transportation System, contact Kurt Yeiter at
kurt.m.yeiter@ci.eugene.or.us or go to www.EugeneTSP.org.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
